报告题目：Block4EU: Blockchain Applications and the Trend in EU/UK

报告摘要：

Blockchain technology has become one core technology to support various infrastructures. It can eliminate the need for intermediaries by providing a transparent and secure record of transactions, enabling trust and accountability without a central authority. Many blockchain applications have been developed in different domains. This talk will first introduce efforts of EU/UK made to enhance the blockchain development with the current status of blockchain technology applications in the EU, including the major application instances. This talk then introduces the relevant research of our team in blockchain applications. In the end, this talk discusses the major challenges in blockchain research.

报告人简介：

Weizhi Meng is a Full Professor in the School of Computing and Communications, Lancaster University, United Kingdom. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the City University of Hong Kong. He was a recipient of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) Outstanding Paper Award for Young Engineers/Researchers in both 2014 and 2017. He also received the IEEE ComSoc Best Young Researcher Award for Europe, Middle East, & Africa Region (EMEA) in 2020, and the IEEE HITC Award for Excellence for Middle Career Researchers in 2023. Due to his leading activities in Region 8, he received the IEEE MGA Young Professionals Achievement Award in 2020. His primary research interests are blockchain technology, cyber security and artificial intelligence in security including intrusion detection, blockchain applications, smartphone security, biometric authentication, and IoT security. He serves as associate editors / editorial board members for many reputed journals such as IEEE TDSC and IEEE TIFS, as well as general chair for various international conferences such as ACM CCS 2023 and ESORICS 2022. He is an ACM Distinguished Speaker.
