Today’s School of Information Science and Engineering traces it origin from the Department of Computer Science, which was established in 1982 and is one of the earliest computer science departments in China. In 1999, the Departments of Computer Science, Automation, and Electronic Engineering were combined to form the School of Computer and Information Engineering. In 2004, the school was renamed as School of Information Science and Engineering. Presently, the school is composed of the Departments of Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Communication Engineering, Cognitive Science and Technology, and a National-level Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center for Electronic Information Engineering.
