TitleApplications and Processing of Video with Depth

者:美国大学的 Ming-Ting Sun教授 IEEE Fellow

下午4:30-5:30  交流讨论 视频像的理及传输的新技公室510

Abstract:

3D video may mean different things to different people.  Here the 3D video is referred to 2D video with depth information.  The depth information could be implicitly contained in the stereoscopic/multi-view 3D videos, or explicitly available from a depth sensor in Kinect. With the success of 3D movies and Kinect in home entertainment, 3D (including 3D video and 2D+depth video) applications have caught a lot of attentions.  Besides 3D video applications, there are many promising 2D+depth video applications including activity detection for surveillance, intelligent robotics, education/training, and 3D games. In this talk, we will give an overview of systems and applications involving video with depth, and discuss issues related to these applications.  We will also describe some of the research works we have done for video with depth information.

Bio:

Ming-Ting Sun (S’79–M’81–SM’89–F’96) received the B.S. degree from National Taiwan University in 1976, the M.S. degree from University of Texas at Arlington in 1981, and the Ph.D. degree from University of California, Los Angeles in 1985, all in electrical engineering. Dr. Sun joined the University of Washington in August 1996 where he is a Professor. Previously, he was the Director of the Video Signal Processing Research Group at Bellcore. He has been a chaired/visiting professor at Tsinghua University, Tokyo University, National Taiwan University, National Cheng Kung University, National Chung Cheng University, National Sun Yat-sen University, and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He holds 12 patents and has published over 200 technical papers, including 14 book chapters in the area of video and multimedia technologies.  He co-edited a book “Compressed Video over Networks”.  He was the Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Multimedia (TMM) and a Distinguished Lecturer of the Circuits and Systems Society from 2000 to 2001. He received an IEEE CASS Golden Jubilee Medal in 2000, and was the general co-chair of the Visual Communications and Image Processing 2000 Conference. He was the Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology (TCSVT) from 1995 to 1997.  He received the TCSVT Best Paper Award in 1993.  From 1988 to 1991, he was the chairman of the IEEE CAS Standards Committee and established the IEEE Inverse Discrete Cosine Transform Standard. He received an Award of Excellence from Bellcore for his work on the digital subscriber line in 1987.  Dr. Sun is a Fellow of IEEE.
