报告摘要: Optical amplifiers and oscillators (lasers) having mesoscopic spatial dimensions (1-200 microns) are intriguing from a fundamental standpoint but also for applications as diverse as routing optical power on a chip, biosensing, and spectroscopy. Recent work at Illinois in developing optoplasmonic amplifiers, novel oscillators based on nanocrystal gain media, and biomaterials will be presented. The properties of microcavity plasmas and several of their applications will also be discussed. The realization of large arrays of microcavities in which low temperature plasma is confined has opened a new door in plasma physics but has also given birth to new technologies in lighting, displays, and gas phase chemistry.

报告人简介: 美国工程院院士,James Gary Eden 是美国伊利诺伊大学厄巴纳香槟分校电子与计算机工程系的教授。Eden教授是光电子界的五大荣誉组织的会士 (Fellow) ,包括IEEE、OSA、APS、AAAS、SPIE。1998年,Eden教授当选IEEE激光与电光协会的主席。由于Eden教授对微腔等离子体和光与物质相互作用的卓越研究贡献,2014年他被评为美国工程院院士,这是美国工程学界的最高荣誉。
